Brooke Shields to auction Calvin Klein jeans from controversial ad
View Date:2024-12-24 00:48:41
Brooke Shields is letting something come between her and her Calvins.
The model and actress, 59, is putting her jeans from the controversial 1980 Calvin Klein campaign through Studio Auctions during their event from Oct. 25 to Oct. 27 22, according to a press release obtained by USA TODAY Monday.
Shields is also auctioning her script from "The Blue Lagoon" and her high school cheerleading sweater.
People was first to report the news.
"I am going to be an empty nester! I’m so sad. But now I’m going through all my closets and my things and am ready to give some of my special pieces away, like my Calvin Klein jeans," she said in the release. "Can you imagine my waist was ever that small? It’s terrifying!"

The "Endless Love" star added: "But I hope that somebody enjoys these just as much as I have and finds them as meaningful as I do. I can’t wait for someone to show these off!”
At the time of Shields' ad, the campaign sparked controversy by having the then-15-year-old model recite the brand tagline: "You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing."
Shields told Vogue in October 2021 that she thought the backlash was "ridiculous."
"I was naive, I didn't think anything of it. I didn't think it had to do with underwear, I didn't think it was sexual in nature. I would say it about my sister, 'Nobody can come between me and my sister,'" she explained.

The actress added that at the time she was "berated" by the public who thought she was aware of the double entendre.
Shields recalled being shocked that she was being "berated" by the public, who assumed she knew the intention behind the commercials. "I think the assumption is that I was much more savvy than I ever really was."
Despite parting with her Calvins, the model told USA TODAY in May that jeans are still a staple wardrobe item for her.

"Sometimes I'm in the mood for a little bit of a lower rise and a slight bell. Sometimes I would like what's really in now, which is high-waisted, button, straight leg," she said. "Then there's the cropped version that I like to wear with a kitten heel. Then there's Nili Lotan, who does this really soft, great kind of slight flare. I'm moving away a little bit from the skinny jean unless I'm wearing an over-the-knee boot and a big, big sweater.
"I have so many pairs of jeans, and I'm constantly relooking at them, refolding them, seeing how I can repurpose them," Shields added.
